Do you still make resolutions?

Blame it on too many years in corporate America…but I’m a sucker for a good “Action Plan.”  So, each year, on New Year’s Eve, I think about how I’d like my life to look this time next year.  Then I set goals and develop an action plan to try to make it happen.

Remember Do-Overs?

I think it’s the optimist in me, but I love new beginnings.  As adults, we rarely get do-overs, so I take them wherever I can find them.

Many of my friends have abandoned the idea of new year’s resolutions.  My process works for me…so I’m going to stick with it.  (DailyDivaDish was actually the result of a resolution.)

This Year’s List

This year will mark the first time I’ve shared my resolutions with anyone.  I won’t bore you with the action plans.  But here are the goals.

• Improve my photography skills.  No matter where I am, or what camera I use — I do NOT take pretty pictures.  I’ve seen bloggers post pics from their cell phones that are better than mine taken with a camera.  I may need to break down and take a class.
• Read at least one book per month.  I adore books but was so busy in 2009 that I rarely made time to read.
• Organize the master closet.  I feel blessed to have a big walk-in closet, yet I’ve piled in clothes, shoes and handbags, season after season with little or no editing.  And now, every inch of space is crammed so full — I can’t find things anymore.  Goal is to donate about half of my wardrobe.
• As for health, my goal is to end the year being able to run 3 miles without dying or even wanting to die. 

I’m hoping that by posting my goals, I will feel even more accountable.  Wish me luck.

A Pop of Purple:

It’s no secret to anyone who’s met me, black is my fallback color.  Name any item of clothing and I can almost guarantee I have multiple versions…in black.

• Pile on accessories.
• Mix textures.
  
• And add pops of color.
  

The following ensemble was created around adding a pop of purple.

As most of us know, breast cancer, if detected in time, can help us to arrest the spread and help control the disease.

Paying attention to warning signs of breast cancer can actually help in detecting the deadly condition and consequently help in saving lives.

Being one of the most common and wide spread cancers in the world, it is important for women to be aware of the warning signs of breast cancer that will help in early detection, which are as follows:

A lump or a thickening of any area of the breast or underarm: There are several physically palpable changes that women may experience through their menstrual cycle.

However if there is an unusual lump or growth that a woman can feel regardless of the time of month, this could be a warning sign of breast cancer.

Any change in the feel of breast: If one finds that there is a change in the shape of feel of the breast, which is either palpable or visible, then this may well be a sign of breast cancer. Any change in the size, shape, or contour of the breast should not be ignored.

Pain: Sometimes pain maybe the indicator that something is wrong, even if other signs of breast cancer do not manifest themselves. Any unusual and persistent or long lasting pain in the breast or armpit area should be looked at more closely.

Nipple Discharge: Any nipple discharge such as a clear fluid or blood could be a warning sign of breast cancer, so any nipple discharge other than milk, in fact any unusual bleeding or discharge ought to be considered seriously.

Change in appearance of the breast: If the skin of the breast area appears rough and scaly, if there is puckering or dimpling of the skin, if there is some redness or irritation, or if there is a pulling in of the nipple, these could be early symptoms of breast cancer which should be examined.

Changes in Bowel Movements: Constipation, diarrhea or other changes in bowel habits could be an early sign of breast cancer.

Other signs: If there is a sore that won’t heal right away, or if a woman experiences some difficulty swallowing, if she feels full without eating or without eating a normal meal, a nagging cough, or any changes in the shape and size of any moles or warts on the body, any of these could actually be one of the warning signs of breast cancer.
