Fashion: Jean Paul Gaultier
Spring/Summer 2010 Haute Couture:
On Wednesday of this week, Jean Paul Gaultier brought an exquisite collection down the runway in Paris. With fashion said to be inspired by Mexico, the Aztecs, and the movie ‘Avatar’ it was a visual delight.
The color palette consisted of a base of soft neutrals and black with pops of bright colors like yellow, orange and blue; plus several blue-green pieces.
Models sashayed down the runway in a mixture of accents including:
- Handbags that looked to be woven out of palm plants.
- Loads of turquoise jewelry.
- Elaborate sombreros-like hats, architectural braided headpieces or palm fronds acting as makeshift hats.
- Couture cowboy boots.
- Some even sported a cigar.
My three favorite elements were:
- The intricate woven pattern of several pieces, as shown pictures 1 and 3 below.
- The dreamy blue-green palette as shown in pics 2-7 below.
- The amazing black dress in the last picture.

Beauty of Nature
Ice Photography:
Although I’m not a huge fan of this particular season, I still appreciate its charm on occasion. I can even find beauty in a moderate ice storm.
I enjoy photographing icy terrains. They fascinate me. Even the most simple thing, such as a bare, leafless tree is transformed into an ice sculpture.
Sometimes an ice storm can turn really nasty, breaking trees and power lines…I do not enjoy these. But a light to moderate coating of ice can turn a dull winter terrain into a magical wonderland.
The following are pictures I’ve taken during ice storms.

New Morning-After Pill More Effective
The New York Daily News website is calling it Plan C, a morning after pill that claims to be efficacious even 5 days after unprotected sex.
This one as it is claimed offers more protection against unwanted pregnancy than other pills currently on the market.
The reason for more effectiveness is because it works differently: whereas other pills currently on the market destroy an embryo, this one delays the release of the egg itself.
Studies conducted have found that if taken within 72 hours of having sex, the pill can prevent up to 66% of pregnancies; whereas it will still prevent 50% of pregnancies if had within 5 days of having had sex.
Experts have called the development of the pill “encouraging” since with the currently available morning after pill, no significant reduction in abortion rates have been seen.
American women may not rejoice yet; it’s not about to reach American shores just yet. According to Dr. Jill Maura Rabin, head of urogynecology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, “It was a small study. We need more safety data.”
“It makes the lining of the uterus hostile to implantation,” Rabin was quoted as having said. “Nothing that I have read indicates that it would do anything to an established pregnancy.”

Inspiration: Alice in Wonderland
You’ve got a Very Important Date:
On March 5th, the much-anticipated ‘Alice in Wonderland’ hits theaters. And it seems everyone is buzzing about it. But who can blame them? From a richly-detailed wardrobe to an ornate backdrop, Tim Burton has created a magical scene.
The saturated colors alone, are enough to make me want to get out a sketchpad and start designing. (And this inspiration is a good thing because we’re currently in the process of a site re-design.)
As many are aware, the beauty industry has been doing some Alice-inspired designs as well. Urban Decay recently launched their limited edition Alice in Wonderland Palette. While it sold out nearly instantly on the Urban Decay site, it is now available at *Sephora.
OPI has joined in with their own Alice in Wonderland collection. With names like ‘Mad as a Hatter’ and ‘Off with Her Red’ these polishes are sure to be a hit!
Scroll down for a look at some of the costumes from the upcoming movie and a teaser trailer for Alice in Wonderland. They are what provided me some well-needed inspiration today. What inspires you?

What Is Folliculitis?
Folliculitis occurs when there is an inflammation of one or more hair follicles on any part of the skin; which includes the scalp.
- Folliculitis happens when bacteria enters a follicle after any kind of injury or trauma. Usually the staph bacteria are known to cause this infection of the follicle.
- Folliculitis can occur even due to repeated rubbing of clothing against the skin.
- Folliculitis could also be caused by an insect bite.
- A blockage of the follicle could also cause it. This can also be caused due to the hair curling back into the skin and causing blockage
- Shaving can be another cause and could result in what is known as Barber’s rash.
- Similarly shaving or using other methods of hair removal in the underarm area could also cause this.
- Folliculitis can also occur in the area of the scalp due to inflammation caused by braiding that is done too tight or which causes friction. Sometimes this may cause several hairs to come up from a single follicle and thereby may cause scarring and even hair loss.
- Sometimes make up can cause Folliculitis due to its content of certain oils. For this reason Folliculitis is also seen in refinery workers, sheep shearers, mechanics or road workers.
