Going flat in a high heeled world:

With platforms leading the charge, heel heights have been going up, up, up.  Some of these beauties are architecturally spectacular.  I mean, have you seen the Alexander McQueen Titanic Ballerina pump?  Feminine contrasts  masculine; pink ballerina slipper meets utilitarian hardware.  They are part of the Spring/Summer 2010 collection.  And I am smitten with them!

But are flats moving up in the race?  They’ve been coming on strong for some time.  And if this week is any indication…they just may be edging along even further than I thought.

The first indication was when Victoria Beckham (Reigning Queen of Killer High Heels) was spotted at LAX in flats this week.  (See photo below.)

Also this week, Rachel Zoe named statement-making flats as one of her top 20 wardrobe essentials.  (I should mention, a nude pump also made the list.)

It’s been a big week for flats!  And with NY Fashion Week on the horizon, I think they deserve a little attention.

Anyone who’s ever attended NY Fashion Week knows there’s an enormous amount of walking and standing.  Throw in evening festivities and it’s a non-stop day of foot-abuse.  The right pair of flats can provide a fashionable alternative to heels.

For quick relief, a pair of Fit in Clouds (shown below) are handbag-friendly due to the fact they fold in half for easy storage.

So whether you’re looking for comfort in day-to-day life, seeking relief during fashion week or looking to keep up with Rachel Zoe’s must-have list…there are many options in flats.
