A Story comes to Life:

Often the inspiration or back-story behind a collection is almost as compelling as the pieces themselves.  Such is the case for the 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2010 collection. 

Yesterday’s collection was said by Lim to be revolving around “a disco party that comes to an end because of exhaustion and excess.” His girl then comes from the shadows, ripping a dress from one of party-goers… “She cuts it and makes it her own.”

With squared-off corners and sharp asymmetry throughout many of his pieces, I could really see this inspiration coming to life.

Many of the garments were embellished with gems, others with sequins.   And some had been laser-cut to create a lacy feel.

Shorts and pants were well represented.  In fact, my favorite look was a cropped sweater paired with a modified-plaid printed pair of shorts.  (See 2nd photo below.)

While much of the clothing pulled from the grey, cream, black and camel color families, there were also pops of a pink shade and a slate blue/lavender/purple grouping.

As a whole, I think this was a very wearable collection.  I could easily see one of the models walking off the runway and straight out into everyday life.
